Public Info Session on Responding to Proposed New Fracking Regulations
In late November, the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) proposed new regulations for shale gas drilling in New York, with a 30-day period for public comment. That period began on December 12 and ends at 5pm on January 11, 2013. If you’d like to make your voice heard within this window, but are not yet familiar with the proposed regulations, this meeting will get you up to speed. A distinguished group of panelists from Cornell, IC, and the Community Environmental Defense Council will present their views, including why the regulations are important, what issues they cover, and how citizens and groups can give the most effective feedback. After the presentations, there will be refreshments and a chance to send your comments to the DEC.
The meeting will be held on Monday, December 17th, at the Unitarian Church of Ithaca (corner of N. Aurora and Buffalo), from 7pm-8:30pm. It’s sponsored by the Tompkins County Council of Governments (TCCOG). For more information, contact Martha Robertson, Chair of the Tompkins County Legislature, who will also moderate the meeting, at mrobertson@tompkins-co.org
The new regulations can be found at the DEC website at http://www.dec.ny.gov/
